Opportunities to offer placements or undertake training with the National Heritage Training Group

8 September 2016

The National Heritage Training Group (NHTG) have been awarded £779,200 funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to provide high quality, work-based training and skills development opportunities to equip people for a career in the built heritage sector.

The Bursary Scheme give trainees across England the opportunity to work alongside a team of specialist craftspeople on historic buildings, focusing on developing skills in conservation and restoration. The placements offer a broad range of learning opportunities and allow trainees to work towards a Level 3 Heritage Skills NVQ. The placements last from around 6 months to a year and the trainees are paid.

Are you interested to offer a placement with your specialist heritage building company or in undertaking a training placement?

Training and live site-based work experience is the largest element of this Project. Opportunities will include:

-30 variable-length traditional building craft skills bursary placements

- 100 delegates attending a 2-day course to achieve the Level 3 Unit Award in Understanding Repair and Maintenance of Traditional Pre-1919 Buildings

-10 Heritage Specialist Apprenticeships

-20 Level 3 NVQ Diplomas in Heritage Skills

-10 Mentors to train enabling them to pass on their skills and knowledge to develop the abilities of less experienced trades people

The NHTG are advertising new placements every week at the moment in many different craft subjects.

Details about the bursary and opportunities to apply for can be found here: www.the-nhtg.org.uk/bursary-scheme

For some BWF members, the timber external joinery used in listed and historical buildings and in conservation areas accounts for the majority share of their work. The aim of the BWF Heritage and Conservation group, is for members to come together and share experience, knowledge and best practice. Ultimately we want to develop a range of resources that would aid both members and their customers when undertaking upgrade or replacement of joinery in this sector.
