The UK Government has confirmed its response to the current EU-level review of the EU Timber Regulation.

On the basis of the responses that were received from stakeholders including the BWF, Defra Ministers have agreed on a response to send to the European Commission.

UK Government responds to review of EU Timber RegulationThe response, which you can view here, will be submitted at the end of April 2015, and mostly concerns additional products which should be included in the scope of the regulation. Joinery manufacturers will find that the timber they use and most of the products manufactured are already within the scope of the regulation.

BWF members will also be able to send their views on the EUTR directly to the Commission via an online portal which is set to go live in the next couple of weeks.

The Commission will gather all of the responses from Member State Governments and non-Government stakeholders before developing its proposals. We will keep you informed of any proposals as they become available (likely to be towards the end of 2015).

Separately, Defra will be continuing to press for consistent application of the EUTR across the EU. The Commission is progressing with its infringement proceedings against non-compliant Member States. In addition, the National Measurement Office, the UK Competent Authority for the EUTR, continues to share enforcement advice and experience with enforcement officials across the EU.

If you require advice on the EU Timber Regulation, for example if you are unsure of the requirements for your business or want to discuss any further issues, the BWF has guidance available on its website (including a template due-diligence system) and members can also access the member helpline by ringing 0844 209 2619.
