Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Level 3 (OSAT)

The OSAT Level 3 NVQ in Heritage Wood Occupations is a qualification designed to recognise the knowledge, skills and competence of those who specialise in Wood Occupations to demonstrate their competence of their skills within the Heritage sector.

Employees will cover:

  • Working on conservation and restoration projects
  • Conserving and restoring timber-based products
  • Additional Health & Safety and workplace units

And have a choice of the following areas (at least two):

  • Manufacturing bespoke bench/architectural joinery products
  • Manufacturing bespoke shopfitting  products
  • Manufacturing bespoke bench/architectural joinery products
  • Producing setting out details for bespoke bench/architectural joinery products
  • Producing setting out details for shopfitting  products
  • Setting out for timber framework
  • Conserving or restoring heavy timber framework


Level 3 NVQ in Heritage Skills (Construction)- Wood Occupations (CSkills Awards)


Candidates can advance onto supervisory and management qualifications

Costs and funding opportunities

Course cost: £1,750

Standard funding rates:

Funding support from government: Please see the funding for training page for guidelines on any government funding that may be available
Funding support from BWF:
£875, where companies are registered with CITB and are not receiving full funding from government
Funding support from CITB Grant Scheme:

  • Companies can claim £400 for any OSAT qualification once if has been achieved, through the normal grant scheme process.
  • Companies that pay an annual levy, and submit CITB returns on time, are also eligible for the supplementary grant on top of 22% (£88)
  • CITB is also providing an Extraordinary grant of at least £250 or between 11%-15% (rate still to be set), whichever is higher, of all grant claimed by a company in the 2013-2014 grant year. It has not been confirmed if this grant will be available after this grant year, (therefore this grant may not be available if candidates achieve their NVQ qualification after 31st July 2014).
