The purpose of this National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is to allow candidates to demonstrate and evidence that they have the required skills and knowledge and are competent to undertake a range of woodmachining work to industry set criteria.
This qualification is assessed through on-site assessment (OSAT) by experienced and qualified staff involved in this field.
The scope of this qualification includes assessing competence against the following NVQ units:
Mandatory Units
- Comply with health, safety and environmental requirements in the workplace
- Maintain tools and equipment
- Work effectively in a team
- Measure and mark out materials
- Prepare, set up and operate cutting wood machinery
- Prepare, set up and operate planes
- Select, prepare and maintain wood machining tooling
Optional Units (you will choose a maximum of 3 units depending on the types of jobs you regularly do)
- Assemble components of furniture
- Carry out edge banding
- Inspect and use measuring equipment
- Joint components
- Operate wood machinery and equipment
- Prepare, set up and operate boring wood machinery
- Prepare, set up and operate profiling wood machinery
- Sand materials
- Use and maintain jigs and templates
