The Resource Efficiency Action Plan for the Joinery Industry has been announced at this week’s W10 Exhibition. The plan results from an initial scoping study and series of pilot studies which took place during 2009/10 and examined how the joinery industry can reduce its environmental impacts still further, by paying attention to more efficient use of resources and by better waste management.. The initial work was funded by WRAP and BRE Trust who will continue with further funding into 2011. Announcing the Resource Efficiency Action Plan at W10 on Tuesday (5th Oct John Fletcher, who manages the project on behalf of BWF, said “There are 3 main areas on which we intend to focus. First, by preventing or minimising waste by better procurement practices; secondly, by improving waste management and introducing more commercially viable ways of collecting wood; and thirdly, by improving our understanding of wood waste markets and the legislation governing aspects of wood waste handling”. “By working together, we can make financial and environmental improvements which will benefit BWF members and others in the wood processing industries”. “You need us – and we need you to help work through the plan together”.
