The Wood Awards is now inviting entries for the 2011 awards, which will be held at TimberExpo in Coventry on 27th September. Entries are now open via the website www.woodawards.com where the easy entry form can be completed online until the closing deadline, 27th May 2011.
The awards was launched forty years ago this year, in 1971 as the Carpenters' Award and current format is in its ninth year, having grown to become Britain's premier award for wood in buildings and furniture. The event recognises, encourages and promotes outstanding design, craftsmanship and installation in wood. The benefits for entrants – be they architects, joinery companies, contractors or engineers – are wide ranging, including peer recognition, significant media exposure, and a driver for business and economic opportunities.
The list of Wood Awards sponsors includes most of the leading organisations involved in wood marketing and education in the UK including the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC the Forestry Commission, Wood For Good, the Carpenters' Company, and the BWF. The prestigious Wood Awards Gold Award will be presented to the 'winner of winners' and the judges may also, at their discretion, give special awards for Outstanding Design, Outstanding Craftsmanship, and Innovation. For the Wood Awards 2011, the fee for entering projects has been removed so entries can be submitted free of charge.
