All speakers have now been confirmed for BWF Members’ Day on 24th May, giving members access to specialist and expert sessions to aid their business growth.
Adam Khan architects, a winner of a wood award in 2011, will take us through his aspirations for wood in the built environment and how you can take advantage of the opportunities.
Our workshop sessions will provide briefings and discussion with the industry’s leading experts.
Workshop A – BBA (British Board of Agreement) and BRE (Building Research Establishment) will take members through the green deal, outlining its opportunities and dispelling the myths for joinery firms. The BBA will be responsible for licencing the Green Deal installers.
Workshop B – Malcolm Bradshaw Consulting, doing work for the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) in the South of England, will help members source different sources of finance to help support and growth their business when banks are still reluctant to lend.
Workshops C – Sales director of successful member firm J B Kind Ltd and a lecturer at a top university, Gordon Nelson takes us through good marketing & sales practice that l help your business increase leads and sales.
Workshop D – Mike Greenland from Ligna Ltd the BWF’s Chain of Custody supplier and speakers from the PEFC and FSC chain of custody certification schemes will explain the the benefits of sustainable sourcing and changes in legislation that joinery forms will need to act upon to comply with European law.
Workshop E – Stuart Young Consultancy, the BWF’s U-Value Simulation partner, will explain the tightening of building regulation in respect of u-values and how the move from basic calculations to simulations may be necessary to allow your windows and doors to be compliant.
Workshop F – The HSE’s (Health & Safety Executive) Wood manufacturing representative, Cliff Seymour, explains what they look for in inspections to ensure you remain within compliance, and new rules which mean if you are in breach of the law, you could be subject to additional fees and fines.
Workshop G – BWF Member JELD-WEN explains how they have incorporated CE marking in their manufacturing process giving useful knowledge on how you might do the same. Kevin Underwood, BWF Technical manager will also give a briefing on the Construction product Regulation (CPR) which will require joinery companies to CE mark their products.
Workshop H – Lawyers Wedlake Bell and Chief Executive of the National Specialist Contractors Council (NSCC) explain what can be done to ensure you get prompt payment to ease your cash flow and the Fair Payment Campaign which is spearheaded by the NSCC.
Workshop I – The Manufacturing Advisory Service’s Garry Barr takes members through ways that they can improve their productivity and efficiency in the workshop, helping you keep lean in tough times.
In addition to our workshops, our final session will see the Construction Products Association’s Simon Storer gives us an overview of the state of construction market and then lead a panel debate on questions from you, the members. In addition to Simon Storer, the panel will be made up of Roy Wakeman OBE, BWF President and Chairman of the Performance Timber Products Group; Suzannah Nichol, Chief Executive NSCC; and Iain McIlwee, Chief Executive, BWF.
We will also have representatives manning our clinics to help members with specific issues from Didac Ltd for Health & Safety, one of our technical team for technical queries, and also a clinic on debt/payment issues.
