Swedish Wood have changed the way online CPD is delivered to architects, with a new, film-based programme Timber: the Building Material of the Future, designed to inspire architects who are not familiar with timber construction to take a closer look at the different timber solutions available.

Swedish Wood launches new film-based CPD concept for architectsThis RIBA-accredited programme, featuring Andrew Waugh, the architect of the world’s tallest all-timber residential building, and other leading names in the timber industry, is based on the first three RIBA work stages, so that architects can learn about timber in the context of the way they plan their own projects. On the RIBA CPD website, the programme is delivered as three individual films; on Wood Campus, the whole experience is menu-led, so you can navigate straight to the sections you are interested in – complete with downloadable case studies and technical data sheets.

In Stage 0, Andrew explains why he believes timber is such an important building material
for the future of the planet, how the UK leads the world in innovative timber buildings, and
how timber solutions can help meet the different aspects of a client’s strategic brief.

Stage 1 looks at the ways timber systems can help meet an architect’s quality objectives, shows how much help timber can provide in meeting sustainability goals, explains the different timber options available, and gives advice from different perspectives about how to achieve best value out of a timber frame project.

Stage 2 shows how timber solutions can meet sustainable procurement criteria. It goes into greater depth about specifying timber frame and gives advice on construction strategy – how to get the most out of off-site manufacturing, the benefits for Health & Safety and the importance of SiteSafe practices to reducing the risk of fire on construction sites.

Timber: the Building Material of the Future is available at www.woodcampus.co.uk  and shortly on RIBACPD.com
