Insights into the latest trends in wood window technology and design, the art of safe stair design and the legal responsibilities surrounding fire door safety are just a few of the important learning opportunities on offer from the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) to architects and contractors attending this year's UK Construction Week event.

Take a good step up, look ahead through the window and open the door to better fire safety at UK Construction WeekThe BWF will have a stand at Timber Expo (stand T3/414), at which visitors can pick up the latest reports and best practice guides by the Wood Window Alliance, BWF Stair Scheme and BWF-CERTIFIRE Fire Door Scheme.

Of particular note will be the Fire Door Best Practice Guide, the first comprehensive guide to selecting, installing, using and maintaining fire doors. This easy-to-follow, highly illustrated pocket guide will be launched at the ‘Fire Door Sure?’ seminar being held at London’s Building Centre on Thursday 17 September, to mark Fire Door Safety Week 2015, and will be on special offer to visitors at Timber Expo.

In addition, the BWF is delivering three certified CPD events for construction professionals across the industry in the Surfaces and Materials CPD Hub area on 7 and 8 October:

– Wednesday 7 October – Hannah Mansell, BWF schemes and technical manager, is presenting two sessions. In the morning she will talk about 'Timber staircases – the art of structure', and in the afternoon 'How safe are your fire doors – what the inspector saw'.

– Thursday 8 October – Iain McIlwee, BWF chief executive, will present on the resurgence of the timber window market for architects, specifiers and contractors in his morning session titled 'Looking ahead through timber windows'.

The newly launched UK Construction Week (6-11 October 2015), spans five halls of the NEC and will include nine shows specific to the UK construction industry, including Timber Expo, the Surface & Materials Show, Build Show and Grand Designs Live. Timber Expo alone is expected to attract the interest of more than 10,000 architects, specifiers, contractors and industry professionals.

The BWF is making the most of UK Construction Week to showcase the expertise and innovation of its members within the BWF's various schemes.
