Chief Executive's Blog: CITB-ConstructionSkills To Be Privatised Rumour

CITB-ConstructionSkills is reported to be one of four ‘quangos’ being reviewed by Government with a view to privatisation, according to a leaked list published in The Daily Telegraph this morning.  The full list also contains 177 bodies to be scrapped and 129 to be merged. In a statement on the ConstructionSkills website, Chief Executive Mark Farrar said that he had no prior warning of this from BIS and so does not know if the list is definitive or what exactly privatisation might mean. Ironically, ConstructionSkills circulated an email newsletter to all consensus federations this morning, which included an article outlining the range of contacts with the Coalition Government since the Election.  Mark Farrar has meetings in the diary with Construction Minister Mark Prisk and Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning Minister John Hayes in the coming weeks, and hopes to use these to clarify the position.
