Celebrate innovation and success in your business by entering the 2019 BWF Awards. Entries for this year’s Awards close on Friday 13th September, allowing plenty of time for you to submit a nomination for the following categories:

Enter the BWF Woodworking Project of the Year Award

The Woodworking Project of the Year Award, kindly sponsored this year by Centor, recognises innovation and the very best in design, application and ability in joinery manufacture. The Award was presented in 2018 to TMJ Interiors, a specialist joinery contractor, for their work at Bloomberg’s flagship HQ building in London. This prestigious project involved creating a timber lobby ‘vortex’, made up of 5,621 bespoke American Red Oak panels with three 7 metre high, 32 – 40 metre long curve on curve interconnecting assembles.

Enter the BWF Product Design in Wood Award

Recognising excellence in technical innovation, design and application in joinery product manufacture, the Product Design in Wood Award is kindly sponsored by Teknos. The Award in 2018 was presented to Arden Windows for a bespoke sash window solution for care apartments. Arden Windows’ work involved designing and manufacturing a window design for a 71 bed Extra Care home in Doncaster that not only met the conservation and heritage aesthetics of a sliding sash window but is also simple for elderly and disabled residents to use.

Enter the BWF Apprentice of the Year Award

The Apprentice of the Year Award celebrates the achievements of those individuals who are on a formal apprenticeship in a woodworking joinery-related occupation such as Bench/Architectural Joinery, Wood Machining and Wood Product Manufacturing. The Award this year is kindly sponsored by Remmers. Previous winners have really stood out from the crowd, either through fantastic feats in their work or extraordinary commitment that has added value to their place of work. In 2018 the Award was presented to Henry Acres, an apprentice at Holbeach-based joinery firm JT Ward.

New for this year, the Rising Star Award has been designed to recognise an individual whose dedication and hard work has made a real difference either to the organisation in which they work, or to the wider woodworking and joinery community. Kindly sponsored by the Timber Trade Federation, entries are welcomed from all areas of a business. Those shortlisted will likely have driven change in their business or the wider industry and set an example that inspires others to follow their lead.

Kindly sponsored this year by W20 Exhibition and the FIT Show, the Process Efficiency Award is designed to recognise the implementation of lean processes to maximise value for money, quality and speed of delivery. The Award celebrates exceptional projects that have improved business performance. The 2018 winner was Morland for the design of Forever Firecheck™, a new kind of intumescent strip for fire doors. Through the design of Forever Firecheck™ Morland have eradicated the need for plastic, resulting in a more resilient and attractive product that can be fitted using wrap technology.

Enter the BWF Health & Safety Hero Award

The Health & Safety Hero Award, kindly sponsored this year by CITB, acknowledges individual or collective effort which has made a notable difference to the health and safety practices and culture within a business. The 2018 winner was Tavener Joinery who created their own innovative solution to extract fine dust from their joinery workshop. Having spoken to various extraction companies who could not provide a solution, the business created their own. Air quality has improved dramatically and they now have a cleaner and safer environment.

With thanks to the sponsors of the 2019 BWF Awards, who make the event possible. The Awards presentation will be held on the evening of Friday 22nd November 2019 at the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, London. Shortlisted entries will be notifi ed of their success at least one month in advance and they will receive two complimentary tickets to the Awards Dinner so they can celebrate their success and be there to accept the Award should they win the category. Additional tickets to the Awards Dinner will be available for friends and colleagues and you will be notifi ed of how to book these.
