The proposed Construction Product Regulation (CPR) to replace the Construction Products Directive achieved a major milestone this week with the approval of a draft in the Internal Markets and Consumer Protection (IMCO) committee of the European Parliament. This follows negotiations before Christmas between the committee, the Commission and the Council of Ministers over various proposed amendments. The draft now goes to a plenary vote in the Parliament next week and then formal approval by the Council, neither of which is now expected to be a problem. It is expected that the CPR will become law in the Spring with the mandatory CE marking provisions coming into force in July 2013.
