The Localism Bill was given its First Reading in Parliament last month. The provisions will devolve greater power and freedoms to councils and neighbourhoods, establish powerful new rights for communities, revolutionise the planning system, and give communities much more control over housing decisions.

This piece of legislation will have a significant impact on our industry and therefore the Construction Products Association (CPA) will be holding a briefing on the Bill by DCLG officials at 11am on Wednesday 9 February 2011 at the Building Centre, 26 Store Street, London, WC1E 7BT. This will provide an opportunity to better understand the contents of the Bill and also feed in your views. So far, the CPA have asked the DCLG officials to focus on a few areas of particular interest, namely planning, regulation and the costs and benefits of localism but please make us aware if there are any additional areas you would like them to cover. The briefing will run from 11am -12.30pm, followed by a sandwich lunch. BWF members are eligible to attend the meeting on account of the BWF's membership of the CPA. Let me know as soon as possible (matthew.mahony@bwf.org.uk) if you would like to attend and also if you intend on staying for lunch.
