A lively discussion took place at the BWF members’ day on the topic of apprenticeships. BWF members employ a substantial number of apprentices in both manufacturing and installation recognising the benefits of maintaining skill levels within the sector, keeping pace with the latest technology and a more motivated and productive workforce.
Along with the National Specialist Contractors’ Council (NSCC) BWF is committed to promoting and supporting apprenticeship opportunities in the specialist sector and the NSCC Apprenticeship Roll of Honour was launched to recognise NSCC companies that are investing in apprenticeships. As a BWF member employing an apprentice, you can ensure your company is featured on the NSCC’s Roll of Honour by sending your logo to enquiries@nscc.org.uk .
Continued investment in training is crucial to ensure that the sector retains a fully qualified workforce for the future and the latest NSCC State of Trade Survey revealed that a third of Specialist Contractors are planning to take on an apprentice over the next 12 months.
There is currently a wide range of support available for employers and those registered with CITB can receive grants of between £6,000 and £10,250 for each apprentice. Employers taking on new apprentices aged between 16 and 24 for the first time in at least 12 months can also claim an incentive grant of £1,500 from the National Apprenticeship Service.
