With mandatory CE Marking imminent for manufacturers of windows and external doorsets, BWF members are reminded that U-Values are considered ‘essential characteristics’ for the sake of CE Marking, and will need to be included as part of your Declaration of Performance (DoP).
Obtaining a precise U-value can be prohibitively expensive for smaller manufacturers. The BWF is able to offer members a basic U-value calculation to enable them to obtain the figure they need to comply with Building Regulations and the Construction Products Regulation (CE Marking) at a highly reduced cost.
If you are a micro-enterprise (fewer than 10 employees and with an annual turnover and/or annual balance sheet total does not exceed EUR 2 million) U-values can be calculated using any available calculation tool that follows BS EN ISO 10077-1 or -2. In the case larger window and doorset manufacturers, a certificate will need to be accredited via a notified body.
We are able to carry out a basic U-value calculation based on Part 1 of the aforementioned standard using the ECWINS software tool, which is only available through the BWF and only to BWF members. The cost is £95+VAT for the first calculation with additional calculations ordered within 12 months available at just £65+VAT.
We can also provide calculations accredited via a notified body for £145+VAT, with additional calculations ordered within 12 months available at £115+VAT
You can read more about the service here: www.bwf.org.uk/toolkit/product-energy-performance/basic-u-values
BWF members can log-in to download the calculation application forms for windows and doors here: www.bwf.org.uk/publications/windows
A U-value is not the only requirement for mandatory CE Marking and you can of course find more information on CE Marking here on our dedicated CE Marking for joinery businesses page.
The advice comes as part of an online toolkit of sector-specific information, advice and expertise which has been launched as part of a revamp of the BWF website.
The toolkit gives BWF members new practical help on key issues including CE Marking, EU Timber Regulations, environmental waste management, technical woodworking support, health and safety, and business support.
We have introduced new sections covering what BWF is campaigning on your behalf, plus further information on HSE’s Fee for Intervention, Building Information Management, Life Cycle Assessments, and Market research publications such as the Joinery State of Trade Survey,
There is a designated section for guides and publications produced by the BWF that are available for immediate download by members and a training section providing information on courses, the WITForum CPD programme and routes to get into joinery.
