The BWF has been awarded the specialist SME Assistance Trophy from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

BWF wins prestigious RoSPA SME Assistance Award and sets a challenge for members to become Health & Safety HeroesThe Trophy, which was presented to BWF Membership Director Michael Lee at the awards ceremony on July 17th at London’s ExCel centre, recognises the most outstanding contribution made by a trade association, chamber of commerce, client or similar body to providing health and safety assistance to SMEs. The aim is also to highlight health and safety assistance activities which other organisations can be encouraged to learn from.

The Awards are internationally recognised and sought after, offering organisations an opportunity to prove their ongoing commitment to raising health and safety standards and to be a part of the longest running and most highly respected occupational safety awards programme.

Accepting the award, BWF Membership Director Michael Lee (centre of photo) stated:

“To be honoured with this award shows recognition of the BWF’s commitment to improving the health and safety of everyone in the joinery and woodworking industry – it rewards our work on behalf of our member companies to provide extensive information and guidance to make their businesses as safe and healthy as possible. It is testament to both the dedication of the team here and the input from our members over the years that has honed the guidance through their practical experience.

But we can go further and this validates our new Health and Safety Hero Campaign which aims to build upon BWF's assistance and support that is amongst the best out there. The Campaign is the next chapter in bringing the information to life and really focuses on how companies can simply bring about a revitalised approach to safety culture into their workforce.”

As the trade association for the woodworking and joinery manufacturing industry in the UK, the BWF has over 600 members drawn from manufacturers, distributors and installers of timber doors, windows, conservatories, staircases, furniture, all forms of architectural joinery including shopfitting, timber frame buildings and engineered timber components, as well as suppliers to the industry.

The BWF Health and Safety Hero campaign aims to achieve zero tolerance in respect of fatal injuries, RIDDOR related incidents and occupational ill health accidents.

Each month for the next 12 months a topic will be covered in detail by the BWF to provide participants with the guidance they need to target the most common areas for accidents and injuries and to challenge any bad cultural habits that may have crept into the workplace. Resources including videos, training presentations and health and safety checklists, which can be adapted to fit in with members’ existing business processes will be provided.
