Yesterday (8th April 2020) the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) released a statement on payment and contracts calling for construction businesses across the supply chain to pay in accordance with agreed contractual terms.

In this statement, the CLC expressed its increasing concern about the management of payment in the supply chain, and the risk that clients and firms will seek to invoke contractual clauses to the detriment of other firms.

The BWF team have raised a number of concerns to Build UK following on from feedback from members and we are glad that this statement has been released. The CLC emphasise that firms should not be threatening to invoke penalty or other contractual clauses, when it should be the priority of all clients and firms to sustain the industry. In this statement they warn “our actions at this time will be remembered. All firms should think hard about how their reputation could be damaged by not doing the right thing.”
