The chairman of the CSCS has resigned following months of in-fighting among the leadership of the industry’s skills card scheme.
Trevor Walker decided to step-down as chairman at the CSCS Annual General Meeting today and will be succeeded by Michael Clapham MP who becomes non-executive chairman.
Walker faced-down a vote of no confidence in August and CSCS chief executive Brian Adams postponed his retirement just weeks later to deal with the leadership crisis.
A source close to the scheme said: “The new leadership structure should be sorted soon and we can get on with the important task of spreading the scheme throughout the rest of the industry. Contractors are more interested in how the scheme can help them on site rather than the boardroom goings-on of the organisers.”
CECA managing director Mark Roper said: “With more than 1.7 million of the industry’s workers holding CSCS cards, the scheme is an exemplar of what can be achieved when the whole industry works together to achieve a mutual objective. We hope that the industry can now raise the bar even higher, working together to drive further improvements to the scheme. CECA looks forward to playing an active part in this work.”
