14th October 2013 will see the start of 'Grown in Britain Week' which will be a major celebration of Britain’s fantastic range of timber products and woodland resources.
Grown in Britain is all encompassing campaign which is focused on making a difference to British woodlands. This promotional and strategic initiative grew from the conclusions of the Independent Panel on Forestry, which recommended that maintenance and expansion of our forests should be underpinned by more widespread and varied use of its environmentally-soundly produced timber. Grown in Britain's message is simple. Using home-grown timber benefits British woodland, which benefits the environment and helps us on the way to a low carbon economy.
With positive media coverage and a broad support base which includes timber companies, industry organisations, and construction end users such as Skanska, Lend Lease and McAlpine, the campaign focusses on the symbiotic link between commercial timber production and woodland development
The initiatives will be unveiling its key outcomes in ‘Grown in Britain Week’, which lasts from October 14th to 20th. As well as the delivery of a final report, the week will allow the forest wood sector to 'open its doors' and show people the great things done with wood.
A wide range of events are taking place all around the country including the Woodland Art Festival, guided walks such as ones around the National Arboretum at Westonbirt, bulb planting at Lightbourne Green Community Orchard and the official opening of Laughton Lodge Wood Fuel Boiler. This includes the launch of a new range of 'Grown In Britain' dining furniture at Heals, which you can see in this video.
