How does the FPC process fit in with CE marking?

Following on from last week’s article from the technical helpline, once a manufacturer has drawn up their declaration of performance (DOP) and made arrangements to affix the CE mark to their products, there are a few other obligations placed on them by the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). These additional requirements are chiefly to identify the product and manufacturer, linking them to the DOP, and to ensure consistency of the product with the stated performance.

This is where Factory Production Control fits in. Manufacturers need to have a documented Factory Production Control System (FPCS) in place and should use this system to control the production of the product throughout its life to ensure that the performance of the product remains consistent with that originally declared in the DOP. Any changes to the product i.e. materials, components or design should be considered for the effect they would have on the declared performance.
