Increase In Statutory Redundancy Payment And Unfair Dismissal Awards From February 1st

On 1st February, the maximum amount of a week's pay used to calculate a statutory redundancy payment will increase from £400 to £430. The rise in the limit applies where the event that gives rise to the award or payment occurs on or after 1 February 2012.

Increase In Statutory Redundancy Payment And Unfair Dismissal Awards From February 1stThe basic and additional awards for unfair dismissal increase will also increase from £400 to £430 on the same day with the maximum unfair dismissal compensatory award rising from £68,400 to £72,300.

The limit on the amount of statutory guarantee pay available to an employee also increases from £22.20 to £23.50 per day. This represents the minimum an employee should be paid for any complete day they are laid-off work. To receive this, the employee must:
• have been employed continuously for at least one month (this includes part-time workers)
• reasonably make sure that they are available for work
• not refuse any reasonable alternative work, including work that is not in their contract
• not have been laid-off because of industrial action
