Construction workers are being warned to delcare all their income to HMRC as the taxman begins a clampdown on the industry, reports the BBC.

Joinery was named specifically as a profession HMRC will be targeting, as part of a government campaign to save £7bn over the course of this parliament by stapping out tax avoidance, evasion, and fraud.

While a specific deadline has not yet been set, HMRC are urging companies and individuals to come forward and declare all their income now, or face heavier fines after the deadline as past later this year.

Inspectors will put together a jigsaw of information in order to find out where traders may not have been declaring income and not paying tax as a result.
