BWF members are reminded to display the most recent version of the HSE's Health & Safety Law poster. The 1999 poster or leaflet must have been replaced with the 2009 version poster or leaflet at a date no later than 5 April 2014. The 1999 version had been completely redesigned to make it more readable and colourful as it was felt that the information was easily ignored. The newer version (see upper left) incorporates a unique, serially numbered hologram in the bottom right corner to prevent mis-selling.
Copies of the 2009 poster can be purchased direct from HSE Books and you can find the full range of law poster products here. This includes the new poster.
Although employers could still be complying with the law if they continue to display the outdated 1999 poster (see lower left) after 6 April 2009, employers displaying the 1999 have a continuing duty to keep the additional written information specific to the 1999 poster up to date. In this instance the additional information that employers have to provide in writing, either by inserting this in the appropriate boxes on the 1999 poster or by giving it to workers with the 1999 leaflet, is as follows:
– the name and address of the enforcing authority
– the address of the office of HSE's Employment Medical Advisory Service (EMAS) for the premises concerned
