From 6th April 2014, the standard rate of statutory sick pay (SSP) will increase from £86.70 to £87.55 per week.

The standard rate of statutory maternity, paternity and adoption pay will also increase from £136.78 to £138.18 per week.

The weekly earnings threshold for these payments increases from £109 to £111.

The limit on a week's pay for calculating redundancy and unfair dismissal basic award will rise from £450 to £464.

The statutory guarantee payment which employees may be entitled to during lay-off or short time working (for 5 days in any 3 month period) will rise from £24.20 to £25 per day.

Sick pay and statutory pay rates to increase in April, NMW to rise above inflation in OctoberThe National Minimum Wage is also set to increase in October as the Business Secretary Vince Cable announced that he had accepted a recommendation from the Low Pay Commission that the minimum wage should increase by 3%, the first time in six years that the rise will be higher than inflation. The CPI rate of inflation is currently 1.9%.

The new rates will be implemented in October and are as follows

The national minimum wage will increase by 19p an hour from £6.31 to £6.50.

The rate for 18 to 20-year-olds will go up by 10p to £5.13 an hour, a 2% increase.

The rate for those aged 16 and 17 will rise by 7p to £3.79, also a 2% rise.

Apprentices will earn an extra 5p an hour, taking their wages to at least £2.73.

"The recommendations I have accepted today mean that low-paid workers will enjoy the biggest cash increase in their take-home pay since 2008," said Mr Cable.
