The definitive checklist for your joinery businessThe BWF Code of Conduct which sets out the principles of good practice for a woodworking or joinery business has been reviewed and refreshed. To support members in helping to ensure the principles are embraced throughout their business we have a handy checklist for compliance (that covers most of your legal requirements as a joinery business). Log-in below as a BWF member and you will be able to download the checklist.

It is supported by a Guide to Compliance, which sets out how these principles might be applied practically to your business.

If you meet the standards set by the Code, why not tell your customers?

It will give them extra reassurance that you're the right business to deal with; professionally-run, knowledgeable and responsible, with good customer service. It will set you apart from your competitors.

If you are compliant with the BWF Code of Conduct, log in to the site as a BWF member and then you will be able to access our Code of Conduct toolkit: www.bwf.org.uk/member/toolkit. Now you can adapt our press release and download our logo, posters, web banner and van decal to use on your vans, in your publicity material, on your letterhead, your website and in your offices.

Are you Code of Conduct compliant? Don’t let it slip!

The BWF Code of Conduct sets a benchmark for the joinery and ensures that the BWF logo is recognised as a mark of quality, so that customers choose BWF members

The Code helps members run a better business and reduces the risk of accidents, contractual or employment disputes and fines from HSE. Here are some critical areas that all woodworking companies should be compliant with. See whether you have them all in place

Do you have…

Risk assessments for work activities?

Your dust extraction/Spray booth extraction tested every 14 months?

At least one trained first aider?

A Training Policy?

An Environmental & Waste management Policy?

Records of sales & purchases of wood-based materials (as required by the EU Timber Regulation)

Comprehensive and up to date insurance policies?

A complaints procedure and record of complaints?

Knowledge of your responsibilities under the Consumer Rights Act?

Written Terms & Conditions?

Contracts of employment for staff?

A Health & Safety Policy?

Are you still up to date with some of the key requirements? If not then BWF has the resources to help you with all of these.
